These preachers....as good examples...
Thank God its not the 4 walls that make a congregation. It can seem easy sometimes to dismiss the preacher. But that happens today because we don't have many good or real examples of what a Pastor or Preacher aught to be. There are hundreds of thousands of preachers just in the USA, but how many of them have arranged for their congregations to rent a place to even help or shelter one homeless person ? How many preachers are involved in preaching and teaching ethics, moral encouragement, discernmnent, leadership or History ? when was the last time your pastor told you about the great examples of the Puritans or Pilgrims, or where you can actually find real and genuine information, especially if it will be of some encouragement ? Way too many preachers today are far too busy running their church as though it were a corporation, or a 501(c)(3) entity dependent on others. This needs to change, and sooner would be better than later. If you read this, you should consider discussing this issue with your board or even the preacher, if you can get him away from the golf game, or fundraising for another pretty building. We need to be more involved with actual P E O P L E, and not be willing to leave the work to others. Lets hope and pray that we continue to learn, by taking active steps in that direction.
There is much encouragement, many examples and interesting history found in this and other historic works. It is not difficult to read, and it is beneficial (and Free dictionary listed below for those who may need it).
